American scientists have discovered a vulnerability in the Starlink system.
According to the MIT Technology Review, researchers at the University of Texas at Austin have proven that Starlink can work like a GPS system.
They note the possibility of deliberate interference with the Starlink system. The timing sequences are completely predictable and are used throughout the constellation. Such an alignment in the material of the publication was called a “security vulnerability.”
Signals from an open-source navigation system, as the researchers made clear, can be faked.
“Ukraine and Western allies are beginning to realize that they have little control over Starlink and know little about it,” said University of Texas professor Todd Humphreys.
Earlier it was reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine were complaining about interruptions in the operation of the Starlink satellite communication system.
Meanwhile, the head of SpaceX, the American billionaire Elon Musk, said the other day that his company is losing $20 million a month due to the maintenance of Starlink satellite Internet terminals for Ukraine.
