Researchers of the Baltic Federal University. Kant looked deep into the energy “stations” of our cells
A molecular marker of time was first discovered in the body of animals and humans by scientists from the Baltic Federal University. Kant and the Institute of General Genetics. Vavilov RAS.
The object of the study was the energy “stations” of cells – mitochondria, or rather, mitochondrial DNA. It is not very large, but an independent genome that reproduces independently of the nuclear genome. This genome has two chains, conditionally called “heavy” and “light”.
According to scientists in a published scientific article they found that, over time, the heavy chain converts from A to G nucleotides. Nucleotides are the building blocks of our genes, and the fact that they mutate as a mammal ages allows researchers to view them as a marker of time or age of an individual or individual.
It is possible that the transformation of some sci-cleotides into others during cell division is associated with the processes of oxidation in cells, and hence with their damage, which, in turn, is a sign of aging of the body.
