Scientists have calculated the place of the fall of "Luna-25"

The Institute of Applied Mathematics of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) has determined the crash site of the Luna-25 apparatus.

Scientists of the IPM Ballistic Center MV Keldysh RAS carried out mathematical modeling of the trajectory of the Luna-25 spacecraft, which made it possible to determine the time and place of its meeting with the Earth’s natural satellite.

According to these calculations, the spacecraft fell into the 42-kilometer Pontecoulant G crater in the southern hemisphere of the Moon at 14:58 Moscow time on August 19.

Earlier, the head of Roskosmos, Yuri Borisov, said that the accident at the Luna-25 station was due to the engine running for 127 seconds instead of 84. The engine shutdown did not occur normally, “but due to a temporary cutoff,” Borisov explained. As a result, the station collided with the surface of the moon and was destroyed.

Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Mikhail Marov urged in the shortest possible time repeat conceptually the project “Luna-25”. In his opinion, which he expressed in a conversation with an MK columnist, this would allow our space industry to do an excellent job of correcting the mistakes, so that after that they could move forward more decisively in accordance with the national lunar program.
