Scientists from Japan and Switzerland will develop edible robots

Theorists from the Japanese University of Electrical Communications and the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne are experimenting with the development of drones with edible parts. In their opinion, this can be useful when delivering provisions in rescue operations in hard-to-reach areas, as well as in industrial production.
At the moment, they have managed to create a working prototype of a flying drone, which consists of 50% edible elements. Its gelatin rice cracker wings have a wingspan of 700mm and a nutritional value of 300 calories. Also, the drone can carry 80 g of water and reach a speed of 10 m/s. In the future, scientists want to develop devices in which 75% of the parts would consist of food elements. Then the drone could deliver twice as much food as a regular one. Scientists also want to develop similar robots for food production, where there is a high probability of metal particles getting into the final products. Their manipulators could be replaced with gelatin ones.
