The commission, created in connection with the accident of the Luna-25 spacecraft, will not hide anything, Nathan Eismont, a scientist, a leading researcher at the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
He stressed that the commission includes independent experts. Earlier, the head of Roskosmos, Yuri Borisov, announced the creation of an emergency commission that would conduct its own investigation into the causes of the crash of Luna-25.
“I assure you that the interdepartmental commission will not hide anything, because the people there are really independent. I give guarantees as a former participant in this kind of investigation,” Eismont said.
The first domestic lunar station in almost 50 years, Luna-25, was launched on August 11, and on August 16 it entered the circumlunar orbit. On August 19, the transfer to the pre-landing orbit was scheduled, and the lunar landing was scheduled for August 21.
On August 19, it became known that an emergency situation had occurred at the station, which prevented it from entering the pre-landing orbit with the given parameters. Later, the station collided with the Moon and ceased to exist. Roskosmos stated that the reason was the station’s engine running too long (127 seconds instead of 84), which did not allow it to enter the pre-landing orbit correctly, and then caused the crash of Luna-25.
