Boris Filippov, an employee of the Institute of Terrestrial Magnetism of the Russian Academy of Sciences, explained why not only residents of the northern regions of Russia saw the aurora on the night of February 28.
Filippov said that a relatively powerful geomagnetic storm had occurred on Earth, due to which one could see the aurora.
According to Filippov, the magnetic storm has already ended.
The northern lights could be seen in the Moscow region, Kostroma, St. Petersburg and the Yaroslavl region.
