The head of the IZMIRAN Space Weather Forecast Center, Artem Abunin, commented on reports that a series of powerful explosions occurred on the Sun on November 27 and 28 and a deep coronal hole formed, directed towards the Earth, reports website KP.RU.
According to Abunin, the magnetosphere is now swinging and the Earth’s field strength has already reached 16 nanotesla. He explained that this meant that a real storm was about to begin.
“There is guaranteed to be a storm with a magnitude of 7,” the scientist emphasized, adding that the storm will be extended. But Muscovites will not see the aurora due to cloud cover.
As for the coronal hole, the disturbance from it will come to Earth on December 4-5 and thus two storms will merge into one.
