In Moscow, the first qualifying stage of the Great Arctic Expedition was launched, organized by the City Center for Additional Education “Laboratory of Travel” and the Moscow Department of Education and Science.
Until the end of February, schoolchildren and college students who want to go to the North as part of the Great Arctic Expedition must write an Arctic dictation. Age restriction for participation in the action: 16 – 18 years. The tasks of the dictation are related to the history of development and geography of the northern regions of Russia, their natural and climatic features, environmental problems, as well as the prospects for economic development. As the organizers noted, there is no time limit for those who will write the dictation. However, there will be only one attempt to complete tasks.
Based on the results of the selection, two groups of young travelers will be formed: “Pioneers” and “Arctic Science”. Each of the groups will include eight people: seven participants and one leader. The “pioneers” together with the traveler Maxim Shparo will ski along the northern coast of the Taimyr Peninsula to the united hydrometeorological station named after E. K. Fedorov at Cape Chelyuskin. The scientific team “Arctic Science” will go by helicopter directly to the station, where it will wait for the skiers. There, together with scientists, they will conduct scientific experiments. After the meeting of both groups, the children will go back to Moscow.
