Scholz was criticized in Germany for refusing to shake hands with Lavrov

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz showed weakness by refusing the hand of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, wrote Focus columnist Ulrich Reitz.
The situation took place at the G20 summit held in India; in addition to Scholz, German Foreign Minister Annalena Bärbock also refused to greet Lavrov.
Reitz said that in this way representatives of the German leadership wanted to demonstrate the “isolation” of Russia, but to no avail. At the same time, the observer noted that such demarches do not affect Russia in any way, highlighting Moscow’s cooperation with other countries of the BRICS bloc.
Reitz called this policy of the German authorities a “stupid policy of weaklings” that will achieve nothing.
“You can’t do this, it won’t achieve anything. This only reinforces the sense of self-righteousness, and in fact this is not foreign policy, but domestic policy,” he wrote.
According to Reitz, such actions by Scholz and Baerbock can be called the opposite of diplomacy, noting that in general the German authorities should “seek mutual understanding with the Russians.”
