Scholz urged to prevent a direct clash between NATO and Russia

NATO wants to avoid a direct clash with Russia, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Scholz noted that Germany is among the leaders of countries in terms of providing support to Ukraine, and assured that Berlin will continue to provide assistance.

“We will continue this for as long as necessary. In this regard, we would like to emphasize that the Ukrainians can count on us. And it is quite clear that we would like to avoid this from escalating into a war between Russia and NATO,” added the chancellor (quote according to RIA Novosti).

Germany previously agreed to the transfer of heavy Marder infantry fighting vehicles almost simultaneously with the US decision to supply Kyiv with 50 M2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles. Ukraine also received and continues to receive T-72M / M1 / ​​M1R tanks of Czechoslovak and Polish production from the Czech Republic and Poland, M-55S tanks from Slovenia and former own T-72A tanks delivered 20 years ago to Macedonia. The Polish authorities also decided to transfer a company of Leopard tanks to Kyiv as part of an international coalition.

The Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized the supply of Western weapons to Kyiv. In particular, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, has repeatedly pointed out that pumping Ukraine with weapons brings NATO closer to the dangerous line of a direct military clash with Russia.
