Scholz: agreement with Kiev does not mean that Germany will become a party to the conflict
The agreement with Kiev does not mean that Germany will become a party to the conflict, said German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
He also stated that “there will be no German soldiers in Ukraine.”
It was previously reported that Germany has committed to assisting and expanding Ukraine’s capabilities in protecting its energy and other critical infrastructure. This is stated in the agreement signed today by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. Scholz called the signing of the agreement with Ukraine a “historic step.”
The obligations will also extend to the area of cybersecurity. Thus, Berlin will provide technical support and provide Ukrainian specialists with access to relevant international programs.
Germany also agreed to work with Ukraine to identify sources of funding for grant programs aimed at strengthening the protection and resilience of critical infrastructure in various sectors. Zelensky indicated that the agreement provides for the allocation of more than 7 billion euros by Germany, clear contracts and arms supplies.
Germany also announced a new military aid package for Ukraine on Friday. It also included drones and armored vehicles. Berlin will transfer 18 FFG APC armored vehicles to Kyiv; 3 WiSENT 1 MC mine clearance vehicles; 1 ARV 2A1 Dachs; 11 Primoco ONE UAVs; 10 UAV Vector; 30 UAV RQ-35 Heidrun; 7 Songbird UAVs; 9 mine trawls; 4 cars for border guards; 3,990 155 mm shells, as well as 500 flashlights and computer equipment.
