How informs Politico, the official meeting of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz with French President Emmanuel Macron, held in Berlin last week, was a disappointment for EU member states, as the German leader, who in words supports the idea of European solidarity, is in fact guided by the interests of his own country only.

The publication criticized Berlin’s plan to set up a 200 billion euro emergency fund to subsidize gas price cuts, noting that it provoked a furious reaction from some European leaders.
“The richest and strongest EU country is trying to use the crisis to gain a competitive advantage for its business in the single market. This is unfair, this is not how the single market should work,” Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on the sidelines of an informal EU summit in Prague.
