SBU indicted all Russian senators in absentia

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported the suspicion (Ukrainian analogue of the indictment) to the members of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, who, after the start of a special military operation, supported the annexation of four regions of Ukraine to Russia.
In February 2022, State Duma deputies, and then senators, ratified the treaties on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance between Russia, the DPR and the LPR, submitted to the State Duma by the president on February 22 after signing with the leaders of the republics. In addition, the Federation Council allowed to use the Russian Armed Forces in the DPR and LPR, after which, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a special military operation in Ukraine.
On September 30, the president and heads of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions signed agreements on the regions joining Russia. On October 4, the Federation Council, following the State Duma, ratified all the treaties, and the next day Putin signed federal laws on the admission of four new subjects to the Russian Federation.
According to the SBU, the service, together with the office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, has collected a “large-scale evidence base” for 170 Russian senators. Members of the Federation Council, as noted, were informed of suspicion under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, including encroachment on territorial integrity.
Russian senators in Ukraine face up to 15 years in prison or life imprisonment with confiscation of property, the report said.
