The court arrested the property of the wife of Ukrainian politician Viktor Medvedchuk Oksana Marchenko, its total value is more than 5.6 billion hryvnia (about $152.4 million), reported in the Telegram channel of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).

According to the SBU, the court seized a 14% stake in two oblenergos and more than 4% in another. Marchenko owns shares through five offshore companies, the report said. In addition, two land plots, four residential buildings in Kyiv and Crimea, as well as 10 cars of Medvedchuk’s wife were arrested.

Marchenko’s assets in 18 investment, agro-industrial, telecommunications and other enterprises were also arrested. The SBU names among them the Kyiv companies “Terra-Invest”, “Ukrkapital” and “Sport Tour”. It is noted that she used these companies “for subversive activities against Ukraine.”

“It was they who founded the company according to the laws of Russia, through which Marchenko transferred millions of dollars to the accounts of the Russian Guard and the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in the occupied Crimea, and also paid “taxes” to the Russian budget,” the ministry said in a statement.

They added that the seizure of assets will provide the possibility of confiscation by court order and protect property from re-registration to other persons.

In early February, the SBU accused Marchenko in the “financing” of the National Guard and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. According to the SBU, Marchenko is the ultimate beneficiary of a network of Kyiv companies and an enterprise in Yalta, which “transferred millions of dollars” to the accounts of the Russian Guard and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation for “protecting Medvedchuk’s real estate” on the peninsula.

“To implement the scheme, Oksana Marchenko registered a company in Yalta with an authorized capital of more than 1 billion Russian rubles. To create it, I used the assets of three controlled investment companies, which are located in Kyiv,” the message says.

After that, as alleged, the Crimean company signed the relevant security agreements with the structures of the Russian Guard of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Searches were also carried out at Marchenko’s properties. The SBU charged her under Part 3 of Art. 110-2 of the Criminal Code (financing of actions with the aim of forcibly changing or overthrowing the constitutional order or seizing power).

Oksana Marchenko is the wife of the godfather of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian politician Viktor Medvedchuk. Since 2018, he has headed the political council of the Ukrainian party Opposition Platform – For Life (OPPL, activity was suspended in March 2022 by the country’s authorities due to “ties” with Russia). In April 2022, the SBU announced the detention of Medvedchuk, and already on September 22, the acting head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, said that Medvechuk and 55 other people were released as a result of an exchange with the Ukrainian side.

In Ukraine, Medvedchuk faced up to 15 years in prison. He was accused of treason and violating the laws of war. According to investigators, he planned to produce oil and gas on the Black Sea shelf in the Crimea region, and also provided Russia with assistance for “subversive activities against Ukraine.”
