In early December, Sberbank began testing a new contactless payment tool — a payment sticker. The lender is also looking into other options, such as payment rings or bracelets, but sees “neither much demand from customers nor much adoption” for them. Tinkoff-Bank plans to launch payment using stickers from January 2023.
The first deputy chairman of the board of Sberbank, Kirill Tsarev, said that, according to the idea, the sticker can be glued to a smartphone “and pay with the usual touch.” “So far, this is only testing, since you need to understand how well the sticker glued to the phone works, whether the signal from it is interrupted, and how stable the payment is,” said Mr. Tsarev TASS. According to him, before distribution, you need to make sure the quality of the product.
Sberbank considers SberPay the most convenient contactless payment tool, so it was relaunched in November for Android. However, other options are being explored. “We are always on the lookout and in constant research, and we expect that we can do something new, more convenient for customers in this area,” said Mr. Tsarev.
Tinkoff Bank in mid-December informed, which will enable customers to pay with Tinkoff Pay stickers in 2023. They will work on the Mir payment system.
In March, contactless payment services Apple Pay and Google Pay become unavailable for Visa and MasterCard cards. Both payment systems announced the suspension of activities in Russia due to the military operation in Ukraine. At the end of March, Apple Pay blocked Possibility of linking Mir bank cards.
