In Saudi Jeddah, on August 5, a meeting will be held at the level of national security advisers of several countries, dedicated to the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. About it reported Saudi Press Agency.
“The Kingdom’s government hopes that this meeting will contribute to … coordination and discussion at the international level on ways to resolve the crisis through political and diplomatic means and in a way that will strengthen international peace and security,” the statement said.
The holding of the meeting, as noted, is a continuation of the humanitarian and peace initiatives that Riyadh made after the outbreak of hostilities. The list of participants in the meeting is not named.
Up to 30 countries are invited to the meeting in Jeddah, according to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), including Indonesia, Egypt, Mexico, Chile and Zambia. Great Britain, South Africa, Poland and the EU countries have already agreed to participate, the Czech Republic was the first to confirm the official invitation. From the United States, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan can visit her. China will be represented at the talks by Special Representative for Eurasian Affairs Li Hui.
There are no plans to invite Russia to the meeting, and according to the newspaper Politico, Riyadh may inform Moscow about the results of the meeting.
The press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov previously reported that Russia would follow the meeting in Jeddah, noting that “it remains to be fully understood what goals are set and what, in fact, it is planned to conduct” these negotiations. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that “if Saudi Arabia’s talks on Ukraine help the West understand the whole dead end of the” plan [президента Владимира] Zelensky”, then they will not be useless.”
