“Sarmat” will be put on combat duty this year – Kommersant

Deputy Minister of Defense Alexey Krivoruchko spoke about the main tasks in the field of military-technical support of the armed forces for 2024. According to him, among the main points is the placement of the Sarmat complex on combat duty in the Strategic Missile Forces (Strategic Missile Forces).
According to the report that Mr. Krivoruchko made at the Unified Day of Acceptance of Military Products, the main tasks also include:
- the arrival of the Tu-160M missile carriers and the S-500 anti-aircraft missile system into the Aerospace Forces;
- to the Navy – the nuclear submarine cruiser “Prince Pozharsky”, submarines and surface ships;
- increasing production of the entire line of UAVs;
- priority development of electronic warfare systems, artillery systems, reconnaissance and counter-battery systems.
The Deputy Minister of Defense named “a thorough study of the design features of the enemy’s weapons and military equipment” as priorities for 2024. According to him, at the moment there is confidence that all the tasks set for the current year will be “certainly completed”, and the pace of equipment delivery “will only increase in the future.”
RS-28 Sarmat is a fifth-generation Russian silo-based strategic missile system with a heavy multi-stage liquid-fueled intercontinental ballistic missile. Flight range – 16 thousand km, payload – 5 tons.
In December 2023, the commander of the Strategic Missile Forces, Colonel General Sergei Karakaev, stated that the creation of Sarmat was almost completed. Then he said that the immediate plans include putting on combat duty a regiment with the new Sarmat missile system in the Uzhur division of the Strategic Missile Forces in the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
