Head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova in an interview NTV warned that “ticks have woken up almost everywhere in Russia.” The country’s chief sanitary doctor urged Russians to be vaccinated against tick-borne encephalitis.
According to Anna Popova, ticks carry 7-10 dangerous viruses that can be transmitted to humans. An effective way to protect against encephalitis, she noted, is vaccination. There is no shortage of vaccines, Ms. Popova added.
According to Rospotrebnadzor, in 2022, more than 350 thousand people turned to hospitals after being bitten by ticks. Tick-borne encephalitis was detected in 430 of them. Most tick bites were recorded in the Sverdlovsk, Kemerovo, Tyumen, Tomsk, Kirov, Chelyabinsk regions, in the Perm Territory and Udmurtia.
