The Moldovan authorities would like to resolve the Transnistrian conflict before the republic joins the European Union to prevent destabilization. This statement was made by the country’s President Maia Sandu.
Previously, the head of state stated that she did not rule out the possible integration of the right bank part of the republic, that is, without Transnistria. Sandu believed that it would be possible to resolve the conflict with this territory after gaining EU membership.
Speaking on the Vocea Basarabiei TV channel, the President of Moldova said that the authorities want to be able to reintegrate the state peacefully before joining the European Union. According to Sandu, the country strives to maintain peace in order to prevent destabilization.
She also stated that the authorities are doing everything in their power to help residents of the left bank. On the issue of reintegration, the President of Moldova said, they intend to take into account the interests of the residents of Transnistria.
The issue of starting the negotiation process on the entry of Ukraine and Moldova into the European Union will be discussed at the bloc’s summit on December 14 and 15. For this to be possible, a positive decision must be made by all representatives of EU countries.
