Politico: Some EU leaders are ready to postpone Ukraine’s accession talks

Some heads of EU countries are ready to partially concede to Hungary and postpone the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the bloc until the spring of 2024. Politico reported this on Thursday, December 14, citing senior European officials and diplomats.
“According to senior officials and diplomats, some EU leaders appear willing to make partial concessions to Orbán’s red lines,” the media writes.
Two sources said EU leaders could promise to start talks in March. However, the publication notes, Orban insists on a longer postponement.
It is also reported that the Hungarian Prime Minister’s EU colleagues are not yet ready to subject him to isolation.
Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that will not allow the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. He is confident that the EU is about to make a terrible mistake that must be stopped.
