Moldova sought to build pragmatic relations with Russia based on mutual respect, but failed to achieve this. This statement was made on Wednesday, May 31, by the Moldovan President Maia Sandu.
The politician said that “it must be admitted that we have never had a relationship based on mutual respect, despite all the efforts on the part of Moldova”, and “no cooperation agreement, including an agreement on strategic cooperation or an agreement at the CIS level.
As a result, Chisinau, according to Sandu, makes decisions, including in relations with the Russian Federation, based on the interests of the citizens of Moldova, including decisions on relations with Russia.
Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said earlier that the Kremlin is planning closely follow the news from Chisinau and “behind the rhetoric that will dominate there”, in connection with the June 1 European Political Community summit there. The Kremlin speaker stressed that in the absence of a dialogue between many countries and Russia, the political process in Europe “cannot be full-fledged,” but “it is possible to talk about some kind of European processes.”
In Moldova, at the same time, they decided to create a national center to combat propaganda, accusing Russia of spreading it. According to Maia Sandu, Moscow provides informational pressure on the citizens of Moldova.
