Sandu called on citizens to go to a mass rally in support of European integration

Moldovan President Maia Sandu called on supporters of European integration to take part in a mass action in Chisinau. She stated this in her address to the citizens of the republic.
“Assembly “European Moldova” will be organized on the square of the Great National Assembly on May 21. Together we will support our common dream, we will demonstrate to the whole world that we want to build the EU at home,” she said (quote according to TASS).
Sandu previously stated that the riots on April 7, 2009, when the buildings of the parliament and the presidential administration were destroyed and set on fire, allowed the country to follow the path of democracy and integration into the EU. “14 years ago, the people chose a different path, the path of democracy, respect for rights, the European Union,” she wrote on her social media page.
In June 2022, the speaker of parliament, leader of the ruling Action and Solidarity Party, Igor Grosu, said that Moldova was ready to join the new EU sanctions against Russia. Before that, the republic officially received the status of a candidate for joining the EU. In the event of joining the anti-Russian sanctions of the European Union, Moldova will not receive any resources from Russia, warned Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev.
In December, the republic’s authorities suspended the broadcasting licenses of six Russian media to prevent the risk of “disinformation” and on the basis of international sanctions, the government said.
