The military operation in Ukraine and Western anti-Russian sanctions have had less impact on the work of the Russian non-profit sector than the coronavirus pandemic, they report “Vedomosti” with reference to the results of an all-Russian survey of non-profit organizations (NPOs), conducted by the Center for Research on Civil Society and the Non-Profit Sector of the National Research University Higher School of Economics
The online survey was conducted in October-December 2023, and the heads of 975 Russian non-profit organizations took part in it.
As stated in the results of the study, 23% of the surveyed heads of organizations reported the negative impact of sanctions and SVO on the income of NPOs. Moreover, in 2021, in a similar survey, 53% of NPO heads reported that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the income of their organizations had decreased significantly.
At the same time, last year, representatives of the non-profit sector were less likely to complain about a decrease in the volume of donations from ordinary Russians: this answer was given by 21% of surveyed managers versus 28% of respondents in 2021. Moreover, only 4% of heads of Russian NPOs in 2023 said that due to the military operation and sanctions pressure from the West, beneficiaries were dissatisfied with the help of social activists and philanthropists (in 2021, the COVID pandemic was cited as such a reason by 19% of heads of non-profit organizations ).
