Galaxy Unpacked took place in California, a regular Samsung event during which the Korean company presents new devices. Today, January 17, Samsung presented the new flagship smartphone Galaxy S24, as well as the S24+ and S24 Ultra models, which feature Galaxy AI artificial intelligence technologies. In Europe, the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ will cost from $800 and $1 thousand, respectively, and the flagship Galaxy S24 Ultra, which for the first time received a version with a titanium case, will cost at least $1.3 thousand. Sales of smartphones will begin on January 31.
All new products received a special version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, which has a factory-increased frequency of the core and Adreno 740 graphics processor. The models have 8 or 12 GB of RAM. The volume of internal memory is 256 or 512 GB or 1 TB. An optimized cooling system is claimed to improve performance under high load.
The Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ have a Dynamic AMOLED screen with FHD+ and QHD+ resolution of 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches, respectively, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra has a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED QHD+ display, which is flat. A peak brightness of 2600 nits and Vision Booster technology are claimed to improve images in bright sunlight. All smartphones receive the latest Corning Gorilla Armor glass and IP68 certification for protection against dust and moisture.
The main camera module of the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ has not changed compared to its predecessors and includes a 50 MP lens, a 10 MP telephoto lens and a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle lens, as well as a 12 MP front camera with autofocus and 4K recording. Galaxy S24 Ultra retains the main camera of four modules – the main 200 MP, 12 MP ultra-wide-angle, as well as two telephoto lenses: the old 10 MP with 3x optical zoom and the new 50 MP with 5x optical zoom. ProVisual Engine based on artificial intelligence is responsible for improving the image, stabilization systems and night photography have been optimized, and the capabilities of editing and processing photos and videos using standard utilities have been expanded.
All new smartphones support fast wired charging: the base Galaxy S24 model supports up to 25W, and the Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra support up to 45W. The battery capacity of the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ has increased to 4000 mAh and 4900 mAh, respectively, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra retains a 5000 mAh battery. The devices have wireless charging and reverse charging.
The main focus of new devices is on artificial intelligence technologies. The Live Translate option has been announced with two-way voice and text translation of phone calls in real time from 13 languages (Russian is not supported), in which the smartphone will automatically recognize the language and activate the translation. The recorder received Transcript Assist, which is capable of translating voice recordings into text. There will be other functions based on artificial intelligence. Search has been improved using Google technologies, and device protection has been increased with a new version of the Samsung Knox proprietary solution.
The new Samsung Galaxy S24 will hit the market with the One UI 6.1 shell and the Android 14 operating system – the Galaxy S24 family will receive Android updates for seven years, until 2031.
