Sambo competitions opened at the Bryansk Martial Arts Palace

In Bryansk, as part of the All-Russian Sambo Day, a real celebration unfolded in the main arena of the Artem Osipenko Martial Arts Palace. Large-scale competitions among children and youth started today. The program features ten weight categories.
Representatives from different cities will compete for the title of the strongest – Smolensk, Lyudinovo, Klintsov, Starodub, Pogar, Seltso and Bryansk. There will be 224 participants in the fights.
Sambo has a 60-year history in the field, at the origins of which was Otar Katsanashvili. To date, over 800 people have become adherents of this type of wrestling, 24 coaches train athletes, Governor Alexander Bogomaz said in his Telegram channel.
The head of the region noted the decent level of skill of his fellow countrymen, who have repeatedly represented the Bryansk region at tournaments of various levels: 414 Bryansk residents have sports titles and categories, 155 are candidates for membership in the regional team, 7 are members of the Russian national team. Of course, our fellow countrymen are proud of the successes of their athletes.
“Most recently in Yerevan, the Russian team won 13 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze awards, and our fellow countryman, the legend of Russian sambo, captain of the national team, patriot Artem Osipenko became the world champion for the tenth time!” – the governor emphasized.
Alexander Bogomaz congratulated the eminent Bryansk resident, his mentor Sergei Portnov and all the competition participants on the holiday, wishing them new bright achievements.
