Edition RBC with reference to data from the Russian Association of Distributors and Importers of Video Games, reports that in the first half of this year, sales of legal video games on discs in the Russian Federation fell four times against the backdrop of a sharp rise in prices and an increase in the share of gray imports.
It is noted that in the six months of 2023, almost 134 thousand games were sold on physical media, compared to more than 547 thousand last year. As noted by RBC, in monetary terms, sales also decreased by 57%, falling from 2 billion to 861 million rubles. In addition, experts noted a sharp increase in the average price of one game on disk by 75%, which reached 6.4 thousand rubles per game.
According to the head of the TelecomDaily agency Denis Kuskov, the decline in the legal market for games on discs is due to rising prices, especially when consumers can find a similar product much cheaper on the gray market. He added that currency fluctuations also affected the situation, since the vast majority of games are imported from the United States and Europe.
