Sakhalin karatekas completed the sports year with major competitions

The championship and championship of the Sakhalin region in karate, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the formation of the state governing body in the field of physical culture and sports and the “Day of National Unity”, as well as regional competitions dedicated to the “Day of Military Glory of Russia” were held in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. This was reported by the press service of the regional Ministry of Sports.
“These are the final competitions of the outgoing year, and their scale allows us to draw positive conclusions about the past sports season. Our karatekas have repeatedly become winners and prize-winners of major all-Russian and international competitions. We hosted the Russian Karate Championship, as well as the national championship in deaf sports. This year, a martial arts center was built in the Sakhalin region, and the building of a sports school for oriental martial arts was reconstructed. These facilities are strategically important for a new round in the development of karate and other types of martial arts in the island region,” noted Deputy Minister of Sports of the Sakhalin Region Stanislav Tyurin. — Physical education and sports, their popularization is one of the goals set by President Vladimir Putin to improve health and create an active lifestyle of the population.
About 450 fighters from Anivsky, Nevelsky, Kholmsky, Poronaisky, Yuzhno-Kurilsky districts and the regional center took part in the fights over two days. Performances took place on three tatami simultaneously. Karatekas demonstrated their skills in the disciplines of kata (fighting with an invisible opponent) and kumite (sparring).
– I compete in the “16-17 years old, up to 68 kg” category and, based on the results of two fights, I have already won gold. I had already met my opponents in fights more than once, so I knew how to act, but it was still not easy. For me, the performances are over, and then at these competitions I will be in the status of a judge,” said Nikita Starikevich from Yuzhno-Kurilsk.
