Saakashvili’s ability to open a second front against Russia assessed

There are political forces in Ukraine that want to bring Mikheil Saakashvili to power in Georgia so that he can open a second front against Russia, said Sarjveladze, chairman of the Georgian parliament’s human rights committee. According to him, this idea is being promoted by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Alexey Danilov.

According to Zharikhin, “the leadership of Ukraine and the structures that are engaged in subversive activities there really have a desire to open a second front against Russia in Georgia.” However, “the current Georgian leadership has absolutely no such desire.” Therefore, as the expert said, “the Ukrainians are going to replace the current Georgian leadership with Saakashvili,” who is still a citizen of Ukraine.

But they are unlikely to succeed. “Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili has shown himself to be a firm and skillful political leader: he controls the situation in the country quite competently,” Zharikhin noted. According to the expert, Ivanishvili will quickly “deal with the current President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, and even reach impeachment.”

Saakashvili has been deprived of freedom in Georgia for a long time, and “the situation will not change in the near future,” and “the Ukrainians’ dreams of using him in a war against Russia will remain dreams.”

At the same time, Zharikhin also noted that Georgian society does not want a new war and “the fact that they support Ivanishvili is a good indication of this.” And even more so, they do not want to “go to fight and die for the interests of the Kyiv regime.”

The events of August 2008 sufficiently sobered Georgians, the publication’s interlocutor added. “Besides, they see what such adventures lead to using the example of today’s Ukraine.”
