Saakashvili saw in Pashinyan an ally in terms of “getting rid of Russia”

Mikheil Saakashvili published an appeal to Nikol Pashinyan on social networks. He advised the Armenian Prime Minister to “demand the immediate withdrawal of the Russian military base, withdraw from the CIS, CSTO, Customs Union and apply to the European Union and NATO,” and immediately sign a peace treaty with Azerbaijan. “MK” figured out how viable these tips are and why Saakashvili decided to turn to Pashinyan at all.

Naturally, the main enemy and the culprit of all the troubles in his treatment is Russia. The general message is this: as long as Armenia and Russia are in danger, Pashinyan will “never forgive him.” But the EU and NATO will apparently be happy to host it. True, Georgia itself still cannot wait to join either NATO or the EU…

And what kind of relationship, according to Saakashvili’s fantasies, Armenia will have with its neighbors after signing a peace treaty with Azerbaijan is generally a dream. He states that through these decisions they will be able to live “like the three Baltic countries – with open borders.” However, he does not specify who exactly “they” are. We can only assume that we are talking about a united Caucasus: Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan.

It is noteworthy that before this, Saakashvili published posts that “Azerbaijan is finally returning its territories” and “A conflict of good and evil is happening around us,” where Azerbaijan is good and Armenia is evil. Apparently it’s not so bad anymore.

We also recall that Saakashvili was sentenced to prison in Georgia in five criminal cases: for abuse of power, embezzlement of public funds, authorizing a murder and two murders.

Is the picture really as rosy as Saakashvili presents it? All you have to do is get rid of Russia, and now you have the EU, NATO, and brotherhood with Azerbaijan and Georgia. “MK” asked to comment on the advice of the former President of Georgia political scientist, author of books on the problems of Transcaucasia Stanislav Tarasov.

First of all, the expert spoke about the very fact of turning to Pashinyan: “You understand what stupidity is happening. The former president, who is under arrest, addresses the current prime minister, and he accepts and reads it. This suggests that the effect Saakashvili was counting on has been achieved.”

In general, Tarasov believes that Saakashvili’s advice is unviable. The creation of a unified Caucasus is out of the question, because “Russia and Azerbaijan have good relations, and they don’t really want Russia to leave the Caucasus.” Accession to the EU is unlikely: “Saakashvili was a more advanced politician, he was received in European courts. But Georgia is still not in the EU. Pashinyan is now accepted only by Macron. He has already received a historic verdict. What happened to Armenia is a lifelong stigma with which they can no longer rule.”

And, according to the expert, Saakashvili in the current situation sees a lot in common in Pashinyan, and is trying to put him next to him in a prison cell: “Saakashvili decided to drag Pashinyan into his agony and calls on him to repeat his fate.” Whether Pashinyan will succumb to calls and repeat Saakashvili’s story in the Armenian manner—time will tell. The Armenian parliament has already stated that it is not going to leave either the CIS or the CSTO.
