Alexander Stepanov, a graduate of the Rybinsk swimming school, has updated the Russian record at the All-Russian swimming competitions, which are currently taking place in Kazan. At a distance of 800 meters freestyle Alexander Stepanov showed the result of 7:42.47.
This time is a new record for Russia. The previous record belongs to swimmer Yuri Prilukov, who in 2009 swam this distance in 7.46.05.
Alexander Stepanov won the “gold” of the championship, ahead of the Olympic Games participants Kirill Martynichev, Alexander Egorov and Denis Adeev in the final. Kirill Martynichev finished second with a time of 7:50.06. The bronze medal was won by Alexander Egorov with a time of 7:55.86.
Alexander Stepanov showed the best result of the season, ahead of Ireland’s Daniel Whiffen, who had previously swum the same distance with a time of 7:44.45
The world record at this distance has not yet succumbed to Rybinsk’s talent. It was installed in 2009 by the Chinese Zhang Lin. His time is 7:32.12.
