Sochi hosted the opening of the official Rugby Museum located at the Yug Sport sports base. On the eve of the event, on April 7, the world celebrated the 200th anniversary of the birth of this sport.
At the solemn event, the Director General of the Russian Rugby Federation Pavel Fedorov noted that the opening of the first museum in the country at the Yug Sport base is symbolic, since the Russian national team has been successfully performing on the international arena here for many years.
A famous player in the past, and now the head coach of Penza Lokomotiv Alexander Yanyushkin recalled that it was in Sochi that the Russian team began its successful journey to the first Classic Rugby World Cup, which was held in 2011 in New Zealand.
Director of FSBI Yug Sport Mikhail Dremov said that more than 400 coaches have completed training at the base, and now more than 100 children are training. He stressed that the emergence of a professional rugby team in Sochi suggests itself.
The exposition presents the achievements of Russian rugby, commemorative balls, medals, uniforms and many other exhibits.
Also in Sochi on April 8-9 took place the final round of the Russian championship in the Olympic discipline rugby-7.
