President of the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC) Pavel Rozhkov said that the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) will not require Russian athletes to condemn the Russian military operation on the territory of Ukraine in order to participate in the Summer Paralympics in Paris in 2024.
“Thank God, there is no requirement to condemn the SVO; everything else can be done. If the guys pass the selection, they will compete at the Paralympics in Paris,” Mr. Rozhkov told reporters (quoted from TASS).
At the same time, RCC named The criteria for admitting Russians to the Paralympic Games are unfair. The committee believes that they put Russian athletes in an unequal position with athletes from other countries. In particular, the rules published recently state that Russia is allowed to enter athletes in the competition in a neutral status and only within the framework of the individual competition, and members of the RKR executive committee are prohibited from attending the Paralympics in any capacity, the committee noted.
The committee said in a statement that the RPC has sent inquiries to the international federations for the relevant sports for the disabled in order to clarify the criteria for the participation of neutral athletes and support staff in the Paralympics.
At the end of September, the IPC allowed Russian athletes to participate in the Paralympics in a neutral status, only in individual events and subject to a number of criteria that were announced today, November 15. At the same time, the membership of the RKR, which still considers the position of the IPC “discriminatory,” has been “partially” suspended.
