Arrhythmia, heart attack, stroke and even sudden death can be caused by a New Year’s feast in healthy people. The chief therapist of the Russian Ministry of Health, Oksana Drapkina, warned about the main dangers of a festive dinner.
In her Telegram channel, the specialist said that heart rhythm disturbances in people who are healthy from the point of view of the cardiovascular system are called holiday heart syndrome. She said that this condition usually goes away quickly, but can sometimes lead to a stroke, heart attack or death.
“Episodes are typically experienced as palpitations and irregular heartbeat, chest pain or pressure, weakness, and less commonly, shortness of breath and dizziness,” the therapist wrote.
This condition can be caused by several factors: stress, an abundance of fatty and salty foods, caffeine consumption, and the main reason is alcohol. Drapkina noted that ethyl alcohol has a toxic effect on the nervous system and muscle cells of the heart, cardiomyocytes, and thereby disrupts normal heart rhythm.
Previously, experts believed how much will a New Year’s table cost Russians, as in the film “The Irony of Fate, or Enjoy Your Bath!” Let us remember that on the table the main character had sprats, jellied fish, Olivier salad, roast beef, eggs with mayonnaise, oranges, herring under a fur coat, cognac, wine and champagne. According to analysts, you will have to pay almost 8.5 thousand rubles for such a set of products.
