Kaspersky Lab expert Tushkanov: scammers have started using neural networks and deepfakes
To deceive Russians, cyber scammers have used a new tactic using deepfakes and neural networks, Vladislav Tushkanov, a leading data scientist at Kaspersky Lab, said in a conversation with RIA Novosti.
“Generative networks associated with pictures and voice can be used to synthesize evidence for what was not,” deepfakes, the expert said.
According to him, “they may well be used in fraud.”
As Tushkanov noted, there have already been many cases when scammers created deepfakes in order to write posts on social networks with a link to a fraudulent page.
He gave one of the “loud examples”: the use of the image of Elon Musk.
In addition, the expert said that recently Internet scammers have begun to use deepfake videos, as potential victims of deception have already ceased to trust mere pictures.
Another tactic of cyber scammers is connected with neural networks and the hype around them. According to Tushkanov, “the same ChatGPT is available in the web interface, but you can’t access it from any country” and for some time the neural network even stopped registrations. Fraudsters take advantage of this. According to the expert, “resources have appeared on the Internet where you can allegedly download ChatGPT and immediately get $50.” According to him, in fact it was a “trojan”.
