Madanes: More than 2/3 of Russians are at risk of serious illness due to malnutrition
Almost half of Russian urban residents (42%) are aware that poor diet can lead to serious diseases such as cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. However, two-thirds of the respondents (67%) do not restrict their food choices, putting their health at risk. This was revealed in a survey conducted by the Russian division of the international insurance company Madanes on the eve of the Day of Healthy Eating and Avoiding Excessive Eating. RG.RU writes about it.
The survey showed that only 21% of respondents consciously approach their diet, and 37% try to monitor their eating behavior, but not always successfully. The remaining 42% admitted that they do not follow the recommendations of specialists.
The study also revealed that 39% of respondents are ready to change their diet to avoid excess weight, 25% – when health problems begin. 10% of the survey participants called the example of parents and food habits adopted in the family important, and 10% – the promotion of healthy eating in society.
According to Rospotrebnadzor, almost every second man (48%) and every third woman (36%) are overweight, 19% and 28% of women and men, respectively, are obese. Obesity is a risk factor for many diseases, including cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.
The Madanes survey was conducted in May 2023 among residents of Russian cities over 18 years old. Nearly 3,000 people took part in it. There is a clear need for awareness-raising and promotion of healthy diets.
