Russian youth described the future: Ilya Muromets will replace Koshchei

A figurative survey of young scientists yielded surprising results

The Russian liberal intelligentsia is very fond of gloomy prophesying: “This country has no future.” Here you just need to remember that, no matter what the Russian liberal talks about, he always talks about his beloved. So “there is no future” for him personally. But the real Russian intelligentsia – educated youth – sees the future.

The Center for the Development of Humanitarian Technologies “New Era” published the results of the study “The image of Russia in the minds of young people.” Students, university graduates and young scientists (under 35) were asked what images they associate with the present and future of Russia. They were given a choice from a set of “rulers” of symbolic characteristics of the image of Russia according to the principle “If this, then what”.

For example, “If Russia is now a symbol, then which one?”, “If the ideal Russia of the future is an animal, then which one?”, “If Russia now is a historical figure, then which one?”.

And it just seems frivolous. In fact, such a technique makes it possible to ensure psychological openness, overcome the constraint of the respondents and stop their need to provide socially approved answers when “constructing” the image of Russia.

What happened? For young people, Russia now looks like this: the sculpture is “Motherland”, the animal is a bear, the fairy-tale hero is Koschey, the historical figure is Ivan the Terrible, the color is red, the building is “panelka”. So, very calmly, soberly and adequately to the situation.

“Motherland” – as a symbol of the most valuable, and at the same time security. A statement of tough control, strength and some everyday disorder. And no “prison of peoples” for you. The variant of the building “prison” was chosen by 3%.

But the most interesting thing is how our future – the youth – sees the future. Sculpture – “To the Conquerors of Space”. Here you should write: “Yura, we are returning!”

The animal is the Amur tiger. Everyone loves cats, but this is not just a beautiful, but a strong and dangerous cat. (The bear, by the way, is in second place by a small margin.)

Fairy-tale hero – Ilya Muromets. Strength, wisdom, justice. Historical figure – Peter the Great. Again, as in the case of space, a symbol of the progress and greatness of the country. White color. Cleanliness and tranquility. The building is a skyscraper. And again a symbol of technical development and a high-tech lifestyle.

Oh yes, I almost forgot the main liberal fetish – food. Now for our youth, Russia is borscht (whatever UNESCO considers to be on a par with Kiev). And here is the Russia of the future… a sandwich with red caviar. So everything will be, as Alexander Grigoryevich Lukashenko says, “normal, sometimes even good.”

Another important point. After all, they interviewed those young people who grew up in the implanted ideology of consumption. When “industriousness was burned with laziness, they tempted the gullible to be indignant.” Did you manage to reshape our “beautiful far away”? Now that they have finally begun to hit on the sticky liberal little hands, it will not work out even more so.
