The men’s and women’s water polo teams of the Russian Federation will not be able to compete at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. This statement was made by the head of the Russian Water Polo Federation Yevgeny Sharonov.
“Firstly, team sports are not allowed. Secondly, all qualifying stages have passed, including qualifying competitions,” he explained.
At the same time, Sharonov stressed that the national teams do not stop preparing in order to perform at the BRICS Games and the Friendship Games.
On August 4, the International Swimming Federation (World Aquatics) announced that it had heeded the March recommendation of the International Olympic Committee to allow athletes from Russia and Belarus in a neutral status.
At the same time, the organization did not give permission to athletes from both countries to compete in team sports and disciplines, which is why the water polo players of the Russian Federation and Belarus will not be able to represent the countries in water polo, swimming relay races, in duets and groups in synchronized swimming, synchronized diving.
The BRICS Games will be held in Kazan next June, the World Friendship Games – in early autumn 2024 in Moscow and Yekaterinburg.
