Russian tennis players earn £2.6m from Wimbledon – Kommersant

Tennis players played £44.7 million at Wimbledon. More than £2.6 million of them were earned by Russian tennis players (about 6% of the prize fund), calculated Forbes. However, most Russians will have to pay almost half of the prize money in taxes.
How much did Russian tennis players earn:

- Roman Safiullin and Andrey Rublev – £340,000 each for reaching the quarterfinals;
- Daniil Medvedev – £600,000 for reaching the semi-finals.
In the UK, as in other countries, there is a tax for artists and athletes who are not tax residents, but receive income from competitions or tours. The rate is 20% for income from £12.57 thousand to £50.27 thousand, 45% – from £50.271 thousand to £150 thousand. Only Alexandra Panova received an income lower than the base rate suggests. 20% will be paid by Zvonareva, Karatsev, Blinkova, Rakhimov, Samsonov, Kudermetov, Kasatkin and Potapov. 45% – Aleksandrova, Andreeva, Safiullin, Rublev and Medvedev. In addition, there is also tax on income from advertising contracts in the UK.
