The Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky submarine launched the Caliber missile, hitting a coastal target at a distance of more than 1,000 km, the Pacific Fleet (Pacific Fleet) said. The launch was carried out from a submerged position in the Sea of Japan.
“At the estimated time, the Kalibr missile successfully hit the designated target at the Surkum tactical field located in the Khabarovsk Territory,” the press release of the Pacific Fleet says (quote from Interfax).
The Navy added that the target “imitated the firing position of a mock enemy.” Shooting was carried out as part of the combat training plan.
The diesel-electric submarine “Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky” is the first ship of project 636.3 in the series for the Pacific Fleet. It was handed over to the Russian Navy in November 2019. The second in the series, the Volkhov submarine, entered the fleet in 2020, the third, the Magadan, in 2021.
