Russian state-owned companies from 2025 must switch to domestic operating systems and office suites

Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed domestic state-owned companies to switch to Russian operating systems and office suites from the beginning of 2025. This was announced at an IT breakfast as part of SPIEF Maksut Shadayev, head of the Ministry of Digital Development.
“The President signed an instruction on June 12, on a holiday, that for all state-owned companies, by January 1, 2025, to ensure the total replacement of operating systems, office suites, virtualization systems, database management systems,” Shadayev said. He clarified to journalists that earlier a similar requirement was valid only for critical information infrastructure (CII) facilities.
In April, the minister stated that the Ministry of Digital Development proposed to oblige state-owned companies to completely switch to domestic software by 2025 in those niches in which there are mature solutions and competition among Russian developers, then Rossiyskaya Gazeta reported.
