A program has been created for predicting the development of oncological diseases in the application to the whole population
As MK was told at PMGU, first of all, the new Oncomonitor application was needed so that specialists could evaluate the effect of introducing a particular drug into medical practice or the effect of its use in combination with other methods of treatment. The presence of studies at earlier stages and the epidemiological situation in the country, region or city where the patient lives are also taken into account.
Previously, physicians did not have such a tool that would allow them to combine such a multitude of parameters within themselves. Now there are more than 300 of them, and in the future it is planned to increase this number to 500, including data from medical electronic records, data from mandatory medical insurance, etc.
The more data specialists upload, the more accurate the analysis and prognosis of the course of the disease will be, the authors of the work say. Using this approach, you can compare different scenarios for the course of a particular disease and choose the most optimal treatment option. This is especially effective now in the context of import substitution, when, due to the deterioration in the supply of Western medicines, doctors have to urgently adjust the treatment of patients.
The platform has already been experimentally tested to evaluate the combination of immunotherapy with chemotherapy for Russian patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Such a scheme was recommended in our medical institutions two years ago.
According to the results of the research, it turned out that the new method added an average of 8.5 months of life for patients in the third or fourth stages of the disease. To date, scientists have collected data for nine different types of cancer: NSCLC, head and neck cancer, colorectal cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, cervical cancer, stomach cancer, kidney cancer, and melanoma. The developers of the program are confident that using them, using the platform, it will be possible to predict an increase in the life of patients in the coming months.
The scientists’ next step will be to build mathematical models not only for cancer patients, but also for patients suffering from other diseases.
