Russian schoolchildren won the International Natural Science Olympiad

All six members of the Russian team won gold medals at the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) in Bangkok, reported press service Ministry of Education. Russian schoolchildren also received a special prize for the experimental round.

The department reported that 311 schoolchildren from 55 countries took part in the Olympiad. They completed tasks in physics, chemistry and biology. The competition was held in three rounds – test, theoretical and experimental.

The winners of the Olympiad were:

  • Fedor Avdeev from the Second School Lyceum named after V.F. Ovchinnikov in Moscow;
  • Robert Bitle from Lyceum No. 533 “Educational Complex “Malaya Okhta”” in St. Petersburg;
  • Vladimir Belenky from school No. 179 in Moscow;
  • Roman Kozhevnikov from Physics and Mathematics Lyceum No. 5 in Dolgoprudny;
  • Maria Myagkova from the Second School Lyceum named after V.F. Ovchinnikova;
  • Maria Torkanovskaya from the Physics and Technology Lyceum named after P.L. Kapitsa in Dolgoprudny.

The head of the educational and methodological laboratory for working with gifted children at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Valery Slobodyanin, acted as the leader of the Russian team. The team was formed based on the results of the final stage of the All-Russian Olympiad for schoolchildren in physics and chemistry, as well as the results of training camps that took place at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and at the Sirius Educational Center.
