Russian athletes will miss the Youth World Rowing Championships, which will be held in Bulgaria from 19 to 23 July 2023. This is reported by TASS with reference to Alexei Svirin, President of the Russian Rowing Federation (FGSR).

The reason for this step is the requirement to sign a declaration of neutrality proposed by the International Rowing Federation (World Rowing). In this declaration, athletes, coaches and other professionals were supposed to express their neutrality regarding the special military operation in Ukraine. However, the Presidium of the FGSR recommended that the rowers not sign this document.

Alexey Svirin noted that the Russian Rowing Federation proposed to amend the text of the declaration in order to comply with the Olympic Charter and preserve the integrity of the sport. In particular, the Russian side wanted to exclude from the document items related to politics and the attitude of athletes to a specific military operation. However, World Rowing refused to make changes to the text.
