Over the three summer months, more than 14 thousand pets traveled by rail unaccompanied by their owners. This was reported by the press service of Russian Railways.

Statistics show that most often residents of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan and Samara sent their pets on an independent journey by rail. Last summer, the champions in terms of mileage and duration of the trip were Muscovites, a turtle and a group of hamsters – they drove from the capital to Vladivostok.

And one of the most popular destinations was the cities of the North Caucasus Black Sea region – Anapa, Adler and Sochi. Chinchillas were most often sent to Anapa, dogs, cats and parrots were sent to Adler, guinea pigs and fish were sent to Sochi.

By the way, fish are the only representatives of the fauna that do not need to be given food on the road. Everyone else needs to be provided with the necessary amount of food and water. In addition to the listed animals, fennec foxes and Belyaev foxes, squirrels, mini-rabbits, mice and rats, guinea pigs, hedgehogs, ferrets, raccoons, minks, small non-poisonous amphibians and reptiles, as well as birds can go on an independent journey. The main condition is that all animals must be tamed. They began transporting animals without owners in 2018, during which time more than 150 pets managed to travel around the country.
