The Russian spacecraft Progress MS-22 took the International Space Station (ISS) away from space debris, informed press service of the state corporation “Roscosmos”.
“The engines of the Progress MS-22 spacecraft docked to the Zvezda module were turned on at 05:03 Moscow time and worked for 196 seconds, giving out an impulse of 0.3 m/s,” Roscosmos said, citing data Mission Control Center.
The average altitude of the station’s orbit eventually increased by 0.5 km and amounted to 416.4 km, the report said.
“Progress MS-22” is not the first time leads away ISS from collision with space debris. Roskosmos reported on a similar incident on March 6. Then, after the maneuver was completed, the average altitude of the ISS orbit increased by 1.2 km to 418.6 km. In the same month, the spacecraft again prevented a collision, the height of the ISS orbit increased by 500 m to 419 km. The press service of Roscosmos then noted that during the entire flight of the station, 336 corrections were made to the height of its orbit (of which 34 were to avoid space debris), including 185 thanks to the engines of the Progress spacecraft.
