Anna Netrebko will sue the Metropolitan Opera over canceled performances
Russian opera singer Anna Netrebko sued the Metropolitan Opera. She is trying to sue the American site for compensation for canceled performances. The Washington Post writes about it. The amount of the claim is 360 thousand dollars.
The defendant in the case will include the general manager of the Metropolitan Opera, Peter Gelb. The lawsuit was filed in the Southern District of New York. The plaintiff accuses the defendants of ethnic discrimination, slander and breach of contract.
The amount of damage is calculated with reference to the loss of royalties from performances and time spent on rehearsals. In March, the court already upheld a similar lawsuit regarding Netrebko’s canceled performances in 2022. Then the singer was awarded 200 thousand dollars in compensation.
