Russian official detained on suspicion of robbing a jewelry store in 2001

The SHOT Telegram channel reports that Dagestani official Abdulla Kurbanov was detained in Transbaikalia on suspicion of organizing a robbery in 2001, during which a security guard was fatally wounded.
Investigation data indicate that in 2001, 37-year-old Kurbanov acted as the organizer of a robbery attack on one of the jewelry stores in the Trans-Baikal city of Krasnokamensk. The publication indicated that together with his brother and acquaintance, Kurbanov carried out gold and diamonds worth 1.6 million rubles. It is noted that the raiders shot at a security guard who tried to stop them, and he subsequently died in hospital.
According to SHOT, 22 years later the case was solved, and 59-year-old Kurbanov, who by this time had become the head of the administration of the village of Gerga in the Kayakent region of Dagestan, was detained during a trip to Transbaikalia. The publication added that the official was questioned as a suspect and is currently in detention. Kurbanov has been charged under articles “Murder” and “Robbery”, under which he faces over 20 years in prison.
