The Russian military discovered a Norwegian Air Force aircraft approaching the Russian border over the Barents Sea. As a result, a Russian MiG-31 fighter was lifted into the air, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
“The crew of the Russian fighter jet identified the air target as a P-8A Poseidon base patrol aircraft of the Norwegian Air Force,” says in the message.
The ministry noted that after the Norwegian plane turned around from the Russian border, the MiG-31 returned to its base airfield. There was no violation of the border.
The Ministry of Defense stressed that the Russian fighter was flying strictly in accordance with international rules. The plane did not cross air routes and did not approach a foreign aircraft.
The day before, April 12, the Ministry of Defense reported about a similar case over the Baltic Sea. The Russian military discovered in the sky the base patrol aircraft R-3C “Orion” of the German Navy.
