In Udmurtia, a man lived for 30 years with a bullet in his brain
Doctors in Udmurtia discovered a bullet in the brain of a patient, it had been there for more than 30 years. This was reported in the Ministry of Health of the region.
A 52-year-old local resident, a combat veteran, was admitted to the First Republican Clinical Hospital. He complained of respiratory failure due to a deviated nasal septum. Before the operation, he underwent a spiral computed tomography of the head.
“In the picture, we saw a foreign body in the brain that the patient did not know about. The doctors immediately contacted their colleagues, neurosurgeons, and they determined that the foreign object was a live bullet that had been in the man’s brain for more than 30 years,” the Ministry of Health said.
It turned out that the bullet was stuck in the central part of the man’s brain, in the middle cranial fossa. This did not lead to any serious complications and did not prevent the man from leading a normal life.
As a result, the doctors decided not to extract the bullet and limited themselves to the originally planned operation to correct the nasal septum. The man has already been discharged from the hospital, he was advised not to do an MRI and to be monitored regularly by specialists.
