The NHL hockey club Washington Capitals traded Russian hockey player Evgeny Kuznetsov for the right to select in the third round of the 2025 draft. The athlete will continue his career with the Carolina Hurricanes, reported press service “Washington”. The press release clarifies that the capital club, as part of the deal, will continue to pay Kuznetsov half of his salary.

At the beginning of February, a Russian athlete became client of the Player Assistance Program, an assistance program for NHL hockey players that the league created together with its union, the NHLPA. It provides that any player can turn to specialists hired by the structures to solve problems of a wide variety of nature, for example related to health or financial situation, if they interfere with the development of his career.

On March 3, Washington announced that it had sent Kuznetsov to its farm club, the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL). Washington general manager Brian McLellan, commenting on the decision, said that, in his opinion, Kuznetsov himself wanted to “change the situation” for the sake of a new impulse.
